Abstract:
The Case Study explains how Bajaj Finance Limited, one of India's leading providers of financial services, strategically evolved as FIN+AI — a FINAI company. The Case Study starts with the history of Bajaj Finance and its ascent to prominence as a retail lender. The company's early investments in cloud and digital infrastructure, omnichannel customer acquisition, varied product offerings, and disciplined underwriting served as its foundation. The Case Study further examines the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in customer service, employee marketing, collections, learning, and risk analytics by the company. The use of AI marked the third wave in the company's progress following cloud enablement and digital scaling. The Case Study examines how Bajaj Finance achieved strategic success in AI, for 2027, a “do-or-die year”, as outlined by Rajeev Jain, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Bajaj Finance. Finally, the Case Study examines how the company’s leadership was faced with a crucial dilemma when 2027 emerged as a crucial strategic milestone: should Bajaj Finance integrate AI across the lending lifecycle to hasten scale and operating leverage, or should it continue with a regulated hybrid model which protects trust, human oversight, and regulatory robustness?
The Case Study discusses whether Bajaj Finance should maintain its market leadership by becoming an AI-first financial institution without compromising the fundamental skills that have historically defined its competitive advantage, given the rate of upheaval in India's financial services ecosystem.
